I went to the airfield in the afternoon and went out for a flight again.  I had intended to weigh the plane with a view to doing a weight and balance for a possible Rotax 582, but the plane rolled off the scales, breaking them.  So I threw those in the bin and gave up - I'll look at the build manuals and see what they say about putting in a 582 on the original build.
