June 28th

I'd taken the day off to get some stuff done.  I started off dropping the car off for a seatbelt recall (they use an explosive charge to tension the seatbelts in the case of an accident, and apparently that can set fire to the carpet.  Who could possible have seen that coming?)

Randy picked me up and we went to the airport where we went through the process with t'other Randy to get the annual inspection done on his gyroplane.

T'other Randy had been interested in seeing the 3D printer work, so I started printing a headset mount for him when I got home from picking up the car and texted him to come over.  Unfortunately he'd found a fuel leak on the plane he was aiming to test fly tomorrow, so was working on that.  Then I had to go and drop off some parts at the airport for Chris, who'd flown over from Cameron Park to pick them up.

I did get to take a look at a P-47 that had stopped at Lincoln...

Truly, a wonderful thing, getting stuff done.

June 25th

I went over to Cameron Park to help Chris with the autopilot installation.  We started out by helping a couple flying a Stearman from San Diego to Reno who'd stopped in for gas, but needed oil - and not the kind we use.  We managed to find enough 20-50 with Don and got them on their way.

We met Tim at the hangar and started working on the RV.  Shane showed up and pitched in, and when we got to a reasonable point we went and had lunch.

It was Julie Clark's 75th birthday, so we watched the 8 ship flyby and the chaos that caused with 3 planes who'd wanted to take off.

An RV-7 came in and landed once they were done,.  He'd been at Byron (which has the same radio frequency) and heard the chatter and came down to see what was going on.  Alexander's a tech counsellor and was doing the phase I flyoff on the RV.  He came and pointed out some things on the stuff we were doing with the auto-pilot.

Don came by and we chatted about the American Ranger he'd been aiming to pick up from its engine work - I'd been hoping to fly in it at some point, but sadly it has a bunch of wiring issues.  It sounds like the guy's bought a pile of problems :o(

June 24th

I started the day at the airport, flying 2 Young Eagles.

After that I joined Shane for a trip around Beale, as he wanted me to fly Liza's boss (who's too heavy for Shane to lift.)  Of course, we went into the bit of the map that says "here be dragons" so there isn't much of a track to look at.

When we got back, we headed to lunch, then split up and went our separate ways home.

In the evening, we watched the new "Dungeons & Dragons" movie.

June 23rd

I tinkered with the 3D printer again, this time making a case for one of my Raspberry Pis.

June 22nd

We watched "Renfield."

June 21st

I tinkered around and got the 3D printer working after a jam loading the spool that was fixed easily enough.  I printed a couple of controller box holders for Chris' headsets, and a guinea pig warrior for Vic.

In the evening, we watched "65."

June 19th

Today was Juneteenth, when Americans haven't decided what to do to celebrate the official end of slavery in the country, but it'll probably involve shopping.

Dave and Sam came up from Manteca to visit Tilly, and brought me Lift and a 3D printer to play with.  I'm going to have lots of questions, I just know it.

June 18th

I drove over to Cameron Park and helped Chris prepare to install an autopilot on his RV.  We now wait for the damn thing to arrive.

Don and Mark came and collected us for lunch, and then we balanced the prop on their Sportstar.

June 17th

I got up early and went to the airport to fly to meet Chris (flying), Vic (driving), Kim and Victoria (flying in their Europa).

After a long brunch, I flew back to Lincoln and waited for Shane to land from taking a friend flying.

We went to a restaurant so they could get lunch, and I had dessert.  I'd wanted pie, but ended up with a crepe.

June 16th

I went to the airport after work to sand off some epoxy I'd put on a little chip on my rotor, and to exercise the brakes again in the hope of getting the plane to be easier to push.  We'll see if that helped.

June 15th

I spent a little time tinkering in the garage taking the car pool stickers (that expired in January) off.  I managed to peel them in one go, and the "VOID" sticker residue took some elbow grease and Goo Gone, but it's now all... Gone.

June 13th

We'd ordered replacement monitors for Vic, and they came in today.  I got them installed in the evening (still need a mini-DP to HDMI cable to do it properly, which I'll order) just in time for her to be in the office for 2 days.

June 11th

I met Shane and Liza at the airport, then flew up to Auburn to meet Chris for lunch.

After lunch we flew back - Shane directly, me via Camp Far West Lake reservoir.

June 10th

Randy came over early in the morning and we drove to the airport to fly to Placerville for their Young Eagles event.  The whole way over we were discussing whether we thought we'd be able to fly at all, looking at the rain up ahead.

The Placerville AWOS said it was fine, but ADS-B said it was raining.  There were a few sprinkles when we landed, then proper rain while we were going though all the check in stuff.

I think mostly due to the weather (and there being 3 gyros) the kids generally wanted to fly in the enclosed planes - the 2 I flew really enjoyed it though.  Because of the way the wind was switching around, both those flights saw me take off on 05 and land on 23 :o)

Judi asked Randy and me to fly a couple of the volunteers, and we did - it started raining while we were out meaning it was a bit more exciting than I'd hoped for :o(

We had talked about going to Auburn for lunch, but then decided to go to Cameron Park rather than fly through the crappy weather.  There were blue skies at Cameron Park :o)

After lunch, we took a look at Chris' hangar door and the oil cooler on his RV-6A, then flew home.

Tony came over to the hangar to say I should have ignored the guy on his damn 6 mile straight in final at 70kt and forced him to join the pattern properly :o)

June 9th

I'd taken the day off to get Shane's annual done, and we were pretty much finished by lunchtime :o)

June 6th

I met Shane at the airport and we worked on his plane, specifically weighing the floats and balancing the carbs.  It should be pretty much ready for its annual inspection now.

June 4th

I toddled out to the airport and played with some zip ties before flying to Auburn with Randy to meet PJ.

The whole pattern at Lincoln pretty much stopped to let some guy come in on a 6 mile straight in, and when we'd lined up afterwards, somebody else called a 6 mile final (his first call that I heard, anyway.)  The difference being that this wasn't a 172, this was a Learjet, so we made an early crosswind departure :o)

When we got back to Lincoln, we met Shane and did a bunch of work on his gyro to get it ready for its annual inspection.  We're most of the way there.  While Randy and Shane were playing with the rotor head bearings, I changed the tyres on mine - we've found some 8 ply (rather than 6 ply) tyres that will hopefully last a little longer.

June 3rd

I had intended to fly Young Eagles at Sutter this morning, but I was on call and got called.  For something that wasn't really my problem, but still it buggered up my plans.

When I did get out to the airport, Randy was just leaving having done his biennial flight review, so he turned around and came back.  We went for a little flight, then went and had lunch before heading home.

May 31st

I struggled and with Vic's help spooned new tyres onto my bicycle.  Those rims are hard to work with.
